Powder coating is a high-quality finish found on thousands of
products you come in contact with each day. Powder coating protects
the roughest, toughest machinery as well as the household items you
depend on daily. It provides a more durable finish than liquid
paints can offer, while still providing an attractive finish.
Powder coated products are more resistant to diminished coating
quality as a result of impact, moisture, chemicals, ultraviolet
light, and other extreme weather conditions. In turn, this reduces
the risk of scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, and
other wear issues.It's tough. It looks great. And it lasts a long,
long time. In addition to being durable, powder coating is an
attractive choice due to environmental advantages.
Powder Coating Metal:
Metal is an ideal candidate for UV-curable powder coatings. We have
created UV-powder formulations for both ferrous and nonferrous
metals like: cold rolled steel, aluminum, tin plated steel, and
UV-curable powder coating’s low melting temperature and fast
finishing process make it an excellent option for pre-assembled
metal parts containing heat sensitive materials (gaskets, plastics,
and electronics) and metal parts that are large in mass.
Suitable for application by proprietary manual or automatic
discharge equipment and triboelectric charging guns.
Some chalking will occur after six months but protective qualities
are unimpaired providing adequate pre-treatment is used.

Paintmakers Association of Great Britain, “Application of Powder

To prevent inhalation of airborne powder, face masks capable of
removing respirable dust should be worn. Skin contact should be
avoided and any deposited powder removed with soapy water. Some
powders, mainly bright red and yellow shades, contain lead chrome
and cadmium pigments.

Powder Coating Processes:
Powder coating processes vary by the type of material being
applied; however, they can generally be divided into four
- Preparation of the surface
- Application of the powder
- Heating of the part
- Curing of the coating
- Under dry conditions ,good ventilation at a temperature not
exceeding 30 C,humidity < 60%.
- Storage period recommended should not exceed 12 months,in case
exceeding 12 months without affecting their free flowing
properties, the powder will still have optimal characteristics.
- Should be protected from excessive heat,humidity,water and
contamination with foreign materials such as powder, dust, dirt,
- Any leftover powder should be kept in an appropriate area that is
cool and dry. Do not expose to the air too long as the powder
properties may deteriorate with the moisture
Note:Powder coatings are complex formulations and require proper
storage to ensure longevity and spray-ability. In terms of storage,
raw powder has two main adversaries they are heat and moisture.
Eventually, powder will begin to absorb moisture which can affect
how the powder sprays and how the powder performs, which is
something to be aware of before grabbing that 3 year old box of
powder. Powder should always be stored away from extreme heat.
Something to keep in mind is that temperatures inside a car on a
hot summer day can exceed 140°F, which over time can cause powder
to harden to the point where it can become unusable.
